紀念活動中，社長（總編）田長友先生發表講話。他指出，鳳凰新聞社雖然成立時間只有6年整，卻在國內外，已經產生了巨大影響。在國際方面，先後同加拿大國家電視臺、北歐國際新聞中心、亞太中文電視臺、亞太新聞中心、歐洲僑報、歐亞時報、俄羅斯龍報、美國華盛頓中文電視臺和華盛頓藝術週刊、中韓通訊社、埃中新聞網、斐濟日報、模里西斯華聲報、臺灣南華日報和警政時報、香港環球評報、澳門衛視、澳門法治報等幾十家海外新聞媒體結成了媒體合作、協作友好單位。另外，鳳凰新聞社還跟世界華人會、世界駐華使節聯盟，有著廣泛的合作。鳳凰新聞社在對外宣傳國內政治、經濟、文化教育、改革開放等取得的成就以及國內大好形勢，向國內傳播國際重要新聞，起到了巨大的推動作用。

田長友先生還談到了境外新聞媒體存在的艱難性。他說，由於國內限制境外新聞媒體，使境外華人新聞媒體的工作和發展受阻。境外新聞媒體，在國外大部分不受限制，便捷靈活，點多面廣，可以及時掌握各種有價值的新聞資訊，是維護國家安全和為國家政治運籌、經濟發展、社會進步等方面，提供輔助資訊資源的一把利刃。所以，不可忽視。特別是，國內相關部門，要保護優良境外媒體，適當放寬政策。他希望國內要把境外華人新聞媒體分為“優良媒體”和“無良媒體”， 實行區別對待。
